Thoughts from gradually making my way through the manga and anime.
This one is for all you Clanker lovers out there. May you too find your Persocom in the trash, rescue her, and discover that she is somehow both a total blank slate and possibly the most powerful android anyone has ever seen. Chobits has that wonderfully strange setup where everyone is looking at you sideways because you’re walking around with the most gorgeous Persocom imaginable, and what you’ve got at home might secretly be some brilliant piece of advanced technology from a mysterious lab. I’m still easing my way into it, biting off and chewing a little bit at a time, but it’s a classic for a reason. The artwork is tremendous, the anime is endearing, and yes, you get to see the cute Persocom wearing many outfits.
Premise
After moving from the countryside into the big city, poor college student Hideki Motosuwa finds himself down on his luck. All he wants is a good job, a girlfriend, and his very own “persocom” - the latest and greatest in humanoid computer technology. Hideki’s luck changes one night when he finds Chi - an adorable, but seemingly broken, persocom thrown out in a pile of trash. After taking her home, Hideki discovers that Chi is more responsibility than he expected - and that there’s much more to his cute new persocom than meets the eye. (Source: Kodansha USA)
